Punahou Alumni Association Awards Ceremony

Created in 1976, the Old School Award recognizes those who support Punahou in many ways. Its winners exemplify the spirit of Punahou through outstanding service to the school. This is the one award that is open to both living and non-living alumni and non-alumni.

The award is one of four offered by the Punahou Alumni Association (PAA). The other three alumni awards, and the years in which they were first offered, are the “O” in Life (1954), the Samuel Chapman Armstrong Humanitarian Award (1993), and the Charles S. Judd, Jr. Humanitarian Award (2003). Certificates of Appreciation are also conferred.

Just a quick “Congratulations!” to John Morgan.

John was recognized for taking a foundering Kualoa Ranch to commercial prosperity.

As reported on Pacific Business News:

John Morgan, president of Kualoa Ranch, is this year’s American Savings Bank Business Leader of the Year. Described as a “paniolo at heart,” Morgan developed the ranch to become a commercial success while staying true to the land’s cultural roots. Kualoa Ranch hosts thousands of visitors each year, and has been a Hollywood filming location for decades.

The award was given as a part of the publication’s 2010 Business Leadership Hawaii award ceremony on Thursday, October 28, 2010. This is the second classmate to be honored by PBN this year! (Coralie Chun Matayoshi was honored earlier this year for her work with the American Red Cross.)

An earlier PBN article describes the “paniolo at heart” moniker. If you subscribe to the publication, you can see the full story here. (Otherwise, you will view a stub.)

Great job, John. You do your classmates proud.
