Punahou was leading 21-8 at the end of the third quarter but the game was not a sure thing. The fourth quarter ended up being a nail biter.
Mililani made it exciting with two amazing touchdown throws. The plays were mirror images of each other and each featured the same player scampering into the end zone with nary a Punahou jersey in sight. Fool me once … come on boys! The momentum was shifting. Time to give ’em the hash!
After taking over on downs Mililani was marching down the field. They had no timeouts and the passes were flying. But Punahou finally took control with a pass interception with :58 to go.
The win was clinched. Final score? 28-22.
Punahou has now earned its second state championship. The first was in 2008. Congratulations boys! Great job.
