Patricia Frazier Sherwood, born May 29, 1956 in Honolulu, HI, passed away suddenly from cancer on August 24, 2012 at the young age of 56.
Pat was born and raised in Honolulu and loved the ocean, the sound made by trade winds blowing through ironwood trees, bao and sweet sticky rice. Pat attended primary school at Hanahau’oli School, where shoes were optional until the sixth grade. She graduated from the Punahou School in Honolulu in 1974 and kept in touch with the life long friends she made there through Facebook, e-mail, and Punahou reunions. After attending UH Manoa for two years, Pat transferred to UC Davis where she majored in History. She graduated from UC Davis in 1978 with a BA and married her husband Rich that summer.
Pat worked in the insurance industry for her entire working life, becoming a programmer with Cal-Western Life in Sacramento in 1983. At the time of her death, Pat was a systems analyst for VSP, where she had worked for more than 23 years. She worked with many of the same IT co-workers at VSP the entire length of her employment, developing close friendships that extended beyond work.
Pat loved being a Mom. She and her daughter Christina kept in touch daily via text, telephone calls, Facebook, or Skype. She volunteered for school day trips, school committees, grad night fundraisers and other school activities throughout elementary and high school. Pat and Christina also enjoyed shopping, visiting historical sites, going to Music Circus, and talking about anything and everything. Pat loved nature in all its varied forms.
She and Rich did an annual spring day hike along the South Yuba River to see wildflowers. She enjoyed walks along the American River bike trail. She was an inveterate reader her entire life and loved her Kindle. Pat also enjoyed knitting, singing in the church choir, hiking in the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and co-worker, and was known for her kindness and generosity of spirit. Pat was humble and was always volunteering to help others. Her sense of humor was always evident, even during the difficult days of her recent illness. Her thoughtfulness, creativity, and practical advice will be sorely missed.
Pat was dedicated to her family, and is survived by her husband of 34 years, Richard, and her daughter, Christina, of Fair Oaks. She is also survived by her father Gordon (Honolulu), brothers Larry (Del Rey Oaks) and Mark (Honolulu), and sister Barbara (Livermore).
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Pat at the Fair Oaks United Methodist Church, 9849 Fair Oaks Blvd, Fair Oaks, CA 95628, on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at 11:30 AM. A reception with a light lunch will follow. Her burial at the East Lawn Mortuary Sierra Hills Memorial Park will be private.
