Received word that Ted Pryor is now using his multifaceted business expertise in executive search assignments. Sounds like someone you’d want to know, huh? Congratulations, Ted!
After graduating from Punahou, Ted went on to UC Santa Cruz and then to Columbia University for his MBA. It was good preparation for a thirty year career as a banker at GE Capital, Prudential Securities, and Bank of America. Throughout this period he worked extensively with a wide range of industries; such as, aviation, rail, steel, chemicals, agriculture, business services, consumer products, technology, and entertainment.
With this broad background, Ted developed proven expertise in assessing businesses and their key executives, especially the Chief Financial Officer. It is with this knowledge that he recently joined Greenwich Harbor Partners (GHP) as a Managing Director in Executive Search. In this position he focuses on senior level assignments for Financial Officers, Financial Services, Alternative Assets, Transportation, and Aviation. Says Ted, “GHP specializes in recruiting exceptional ‘game-changing’ executives who can propel a company’s growth to the next level.”
Additional experience has been gained through Ted’s service as a Director of West Elm Group, LLC (an insurance advisory firm) and as the Chairman of Dearfield Partners, LLC (an international project development company). Dearfield’s current project is an African sustainable aquaculture project.
One of Ted’s more interesting experiences was serving on the Board of the Boston Celtics LP. He was on the Audit Committee when the company was a public company (the Celtics franchise is one of the few sports franchises to have been at one time a stand-alone publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange) and during the sale process. Now I don’t know if he catches many games (it’s a 3 1/2 hour drive from Ted’s home in Greenwich, CT to Boston) but I’m sure he can get a seat at TD Garden when he wants to.
Another team that I know Ted is cheering for is the Michigan Wolverines. Not only did he marry a Michigander in 1986, wife Carrie, who is his business partner, but his daughter is a sophomore in Ann Arbor. Go Blue! Eldest daughter, Gwen, is graduating from Skidmore College this year with a major in history. She’s headed to England in the fall to study at Oxford and earn her masters at the London School of Economics. Sounds like she’s walking in her Dad’s footsteps!
For those of you who knew Ted’s family here’s an update: His father, “Tap”, is living in Maine and his mother, Karen, is in Boston. Brother Mike (Punahou ’75) is in California and sister Gale (Punahou ’77) is in Boston.
Hobbies? Tennis, sailing, hiking, cooking, gardening, and bicycling. Oh, and he would like to stay in touch with classmates. Remarked Ted about putting his story on the blog, “Maybe I’ll get a placement assignment in Hawaii!” Maybe you should give him a call!
