With the fund raising pau, it was time to take off for Europe. For me, just making it out of the state of Hawaii and to the mainland United States was achievement enough! We would spend the night at a Los Angeles airport hotel before venturing on to London.

Well, I’ve finally made it to the mainland! L.A. is huge and monstrous. I caught a 747 over. (Oh, by the way, I’m with the band–rooming with Gail Gillespie and Miss [Hattie] Eldredge.) The plane was fine & the movie was “Mary Queen of Scots” which was very intellectual. I was cornered on three sides by chaperones: Miss E, Mr. Fleming, and Mr. Nelson. During the night I went to see the Dodgers play the Cubs with Heather. Took the taxi–total cost $19.20! The Dodgers took the game 5-0 which was good.
Editor’s Note: Little did I know, but “Mary Queen of Scots” would be shown on three of the four movie legs during our journey. My enthusiasm for the flick would wane as the journey progressed.
