I was working on the oral history of Peter Nottage ’46 (interesting story of seeing the December 7, 1941 attack of Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay, being evacuated to the mainland during World War II, and representing Punahou at the Penn Relays in 1946) and was going through the 1946 Oahuan looking for pictures. I was in for a surprise!
It seemed like I was looking at our esteemed classmate, Fritz Rohlfing. Of course I couldn’t be because this was a 1946 picture but … would you not be surprised yourself?
Take a look at the pictures one atop the other and let me know what you think.
I mentioned this incident to Fritz when I saw him recently. He seemed to be humoring me but had a more succinct response when I emailed him with the a candid photo of his father c. 1941. Fritz’s reaction? “The resemblance is uncanny. Genetics is good science.”
The photos above are contemporaneous: each person is shown as a high school senior.
So, do you know who was who? Rohlfing #1 is Frederick “Fritz” Rohlfing ’74 and Rohlfing #2 is Frederick Rohlfing ’46. Did you get them right?
Fritz is of counsel to the law firm of Case, Lombardi and Petit whose website sports a comprehensive biography of his accomplishments (plus a much more recent picture). He is married to Deon and the father of four.

WOW! That’s what I call a family resemblance! I did get the two photos correctly — mostly because the style of dress gave the time period away 🙂 Also remember Rolphing senior as a wel-known statesman during our small kid years 🙂 Thanks for sharing this Lynne!
